Red -vs- Blue
All GCGC members have been divided into teams based on order of registration.
You are Red or Blue
A board topic is available for each team to plot their stratagy without the prying eyes of the opposing team.
Each team will have a cache to defend while attacking the opposing teams cache.
A new cache will be selected for each team weekly
To Attack:
To Defend:
Find as many caches as possible nearest to your teams defensive position.
To find cache listings nearest to your defensive position go to the cache page and click ...all nearby that I haven't found. These are the caches that you may find nearest your teams defensive position to defend your teams cache.
If the cache you found in defense has not been previously attacked or defended you have won the battle.
If the cache you found in defense was initially found by an attacker you have lost the battle.
If the cache you found in defense was initially found by a defender you have reinforced your position.
Logging:
After finding a cache for each defense or attack, submit a log on the cache page that includes a statement that this is an attack, defense or skirmish by your team.
The First log from a team member attacking or defending on the cache page will be the outcome of the battle for each individual cache.
Return to the defensive position cache page and click ..all nearby caches. (there are 20 listings on each page) Note the positions of caches found nearest the cache you targeted for attack or defense. (how many down from the target were your finds?)
Return to the forum and log your find(s) on the Relay board indicating an attack, defense or skirmish with points earned and your position away from the target cache.
Forum logs should appear similar to: Username attacked or defended cache link/name for the Red or Blue Team and Position #
Please post a single log and edit with additional manuevers as they are made weekly, maintaining your individual score.
General Rules:
Only caches listed on Geocaching.com are valid in this contest.
Only caches listed on the first page of the ...all nearby caches are Offensive / Defensive (excluding PMO to a count of 20)
Caches not listed in the first search page (or count of 20) are considered Skirmishes or Distracting attacks (position 21+)
Premium Member Only (PMO) caches are not valid targets for attack or defense.
Disabled caches remain in the count of caches (to 20) and may be included as an Attack or Defense if found.
PMO caches are not counted in the count of ...all nearby caches. Count continues on next page until 20 is reached
You may only Attack / Defend caches that you have not previously found and do not own.
Do not share access to team boards with opposing team members.
Only online logs identified as Team Red or Blue actions are valid.
First to log on the cache page for an attack or defense are considered as first regardless of postion on the log sheet.
First to log in attack or defense on a cache claims that position for the team, all following opposing team actions are Battle lost
Do not edit logs to reflect team actions that are dated prior to an existing Battle Won log.
Nearest Attack is based on postion in the nearest caches list from GC.com not actual distance.
Ties for nearest attack by both teams result in a stalemate, no weekly win by either team.
No "power trail" type finds may be submitted
Defending Position for each team is off limits for attack or defense
Newly joining members will be assigned a team alternating Red and Blue as they register
The GCGC may alter the rules at any time to promote gameplay
Scoring:
Points are awarded for every find with a team log (exceptions above) and then logged in the Relay
Battle Lost 1 point
- Any cache that has already been found by the opposing team first.
Offensive Battle Won 4 points
- Any in the top 20 of the opposing teams nearest caches on first battle
Defensive Battle Won 3 points
- Any of your teams top 20 nearby caches on first battle
Reinforced position Offensive / Defensive 2 points
- Any cache any where your team won the first battle
Skirmish attacks (battle won or lost) 1 point
- Any cache outside the top 20 nearest, win or lose
The team attacking the nearest cache (in position count) to the defensive position of the opposing team earns 6 points at the end of the week.
Game Play:
Red defensive position is Grid B 2011 assigned by a GCGC Lackey (Grid B is archived and no longer works, see Threshold for position example)
Blue defensive position is Theshold assigned by a GCGC Lackey
Each team may use their TEAM OPERATIONS board to organize who might be able to attack closest to the opposing teams defensive position in order to garner the greatest number of points or who best should defend their teams position to keep the opposing team at bay. Determine if it is better to get more points by winning the week, by reinforcing positions or preventing the opposing team from attacking your defensive position. With each team member restricted to finding only caches they have not previously found, stratagy will play a part in the final outcome. You will also have team members that are not nearby but can accumulate points with distracting attacks from a distance or are simply inactive members.

Notes:
As you may have noticed your previous group membership is no longer visible as colored text in your name.
Show your participation (or desire to participate) by editing your profile to display which team you are affiliated with.
Go to your profile, hit edit, click settings and select your team under display group dropdown list. This should now change your name to your team color. To further show your team, add RED / BLUE TEAM to your "status" for display in your mini profile (this is what appears next to your posts)
Virtually every GC cache found by a GCGC member is a potential point earner regardless of distance. Encourage inactive members of your team to participate. For example you see a log from one of your team members that is not participating in the relay, contact them and suggest they alter their log to reflect their team actions and have them submit a log in the relay adding to your teams points. Recruit new members to your team by timing their membership to the GCGC.(check the news feed for which team is next to enlist)
As an individual, find several caches near the defensive positions of either team to Shock and Awe. Even if they have already been found by an attacker or defender points are earned.
Utilize the Team Operations boards to coordinate plans. Who can attack quickly or who will be able to defend a position best? No need to travel across town if there is a team member already nearby that can find and log more quickly beating the other team to the punch. Perhaps the nearest members have already found those nearby caches and needs another newer or more distant member to make the attack. These tactics can more easily be discussed and determined in the Operations board. Tell other team members which caches you are able to attack/defend.
