Bullseye Relay!
Welcome to 2012. Out with the old (“GeoStalker Relay” is over) and in with the new! Our new contest is the “Bullseye Relay”!!!! This will run from January 1 through the end of April 2012.
How’s it work? SIMPLE! Every Sunday, I (or another qualified GCGC Lackey) will post a new set of coordinates to this thread. You have ONE WEEK (through Saturday night, 11:59pm) to find a cache AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE to the posted coordinates. Post your find and the distance to “Bullseye” from your find here in this thread. Be the first person to find the closest cache, and YOU WILL BE THAT ROUND’s WINNER and you will have a chance to win a GEOCOIN at the end of the contest.
Should Three Cachers find the closest possible cache before time is up on that week's Bullseye Coordinates, I will post another set. That set of coordinates will expire as usual on Saturday Night, 11:59pm.
Above are the simple rules… below are the verbose rules and red tape. Read on if you want. If not, just have fun and go find a cache close to the “Bullseye”!!!!!
The coordinates are completely RANDOM, generated by a computer program (courtesy of PUTTZY)! Your job is to find a cache on geocaching.com (sorry, TH) that you have not found before and that you do not own, that is as close as possible to the random “Bullseye” coordinates. This can get interesting if you have already found or own the closest cache to the Bullseye. Just find the next closest cache or find a cache as close as you can to the Bullseye. Any cache will do (at any distance from the Bullseye), but if you choose to find one that is not the closest, another cacher can beat you by finding a closer one.
All finds and posts to this thread MUST BE AFTER the Bullseye coordinates are posted and BEFORE the following Saturday night at 11:59pm. Your entry in the contest is based on your reply to this thread. If you find the closest cache first, log your find on geocaching.com, but do not post your find here, you will not be considered entered in this contest. Your entry in this thread should look like:
“I FOUND {the cache name} . It is {listed distance from bullseye coordinates} from Bullseye”.
No fancy web URL links are necessary (although it would be appreciated). All that is needed in your entry reply is the cache name and the distance from the Bullseye coordinates.
The distance from Bullseye Coordinates to the cache you find is based off of the distances showed on the “HIDE AND SEEK A GEOCACHE”, “LATITUDE/LONGITUDE SEARCH” option on geocaching.com. A link to this page will always be provided (with the Bullseye Coordinates loaded) when the Bullseye Coordinates are announced every Sunday. Note that distances from Unknown Caches or Multi Caches (and ALL caches for that matter) are based upon the LISTED COORDINATES, not ACUTAL COORDINATES. The distances in the geocaching.com coordiante search will be used for this contest.
If two or more cachers find the same cache (or different caches at the same distance to Bullseye), the tie will be broken BY WHO POSTS THEIR FIND ON THIS THREAD FIRST! Order of logged find on geocaching.com does not matter.
If you find a cache, post your find here, then get beaten by another cacher that finds a closer cache to the Bullseye coordinates, feel free to go find that closer cache or another even closer and post another entry. There are no limits to weekly entries. HOWEVER, ONLY YOUR BEST ENTRY will be considered. So, if you find the closest three caches and everyone else is father away, only your closest entry will count, and second place will go to the next closest CACHER submitting an entry, even if their entry is farther away than your other entries.
Each week, “Bullseye Points” will be awarded to the TOP THREE cachers each week. So, if someone jumps out Sunday morning and logs the closest cache, it is still worth your time to compete for second and third! Why collect “Bullseye Points”? A WINNER OF THE CONTEST will be announced on May 1, 2012, and that winner will have a better chance of winning the GEOCOIN! The winner of the contest will be that cacher with the most Bullseye Points.*
Bullseye Points will be awarded in the following manner:
3 Points: Weekly Bullseye Winner
2 Points: Weekly Bullseye 2nd Place
1 Point: Weekly Bullseye 3rd Place
AS AN ADDED BONUS, one prestigious “GCGC POINT” will be awarded to each of the top three cachers each week.
The GEOCOIN for this contest will be given out to the winner of a random drawing (out of a hat, not from a computer program PUTTZY writes). Weekly winners and the Winner of the Bullseye Contest (the cacher with most Bullseye Points at the end of April) will all have their names in the hat. Winner will be chosen by an uninterested/impartial party (like a wife of a GCGC member), hopefully at a GCGC event.
Geocoin Lottery Chances will be awarded in the following manner:
1 Chance: Weekly Winner (announced every Sunday)
5 Chances: Contest Winner (announced May 1, 2012)
So, EVEN IF YOU WIN JUST ONE WEEK, you will have a chance at the coin. The more you play, the more chances you will have to win the coin! If someone is running away with the points in the contest, you can still have a shot at winning the coin if you win JUST ONE WEEK!
A running Tally of “Bullseye Points” and “Geocoin Lottery Chances” will be posted every Sunday when the Weekly winner is officially announced by me or another GCGC Lackey.
HAVE FUN, and please post questions/comments, and other chatter in the “BULLSEYE RELAY COMMENTS” thread. THIS THREAD SHOULD BE FOR BULLSEYE COORDINATES and CONTEST ENTRIES ONLY.
Thanks, and good luck!
* Ties in most Bullseye points will be broken in the following order:
1. Most 3-point wins
2. Most 2-point second place finishes
3. Most 1-point third place finishes
4. The last cacher to be a weekly winner.
5. Coin toss (you always have to have one of those!)
