Hey folks... Sorry I've been rather "absent" since the Lonely Cache challenge ended, but I recently moved to the Oakboro area, and have been eyeballs deep in settling into the new area and my home... I JUST got back out today because we had perfect weather for geocaching, and I felt like I needed to get myself re-energized for geocaching in the new year, so I went to our local park here in town... It's a FANTASTIC area, and has a few cache locations already in position, but sadly the ones I was able to find weren't exactly in the best of condition, and the others were just complete DNFs that I know have to be missing. I was kinda disappointed, but also felt really motivated to reach out to both COs since I know these cache locations haven't been maintained from what I gather in the logs, and conditions of the areas surrounding the locations. One of the COs I looked up hasn't even been active since 2015, and the other seems to have been a Girl Scout troop that might have abandoned the caches they put out, and at least one I know of that was probably attached to one of the disc golf baskets in the park according to the hints and GPS, which I didn't think was very appropriate... But it was a DNF for me anyway.
Basically, I am VERY motivated to adopt these caches, and basically own the park outright (sorry, does that sound too holier than thou?) as far as current caches are concerned, and maybe add a few more since there are PLENTY of hiding spots. I'm just excited about the opportunity, in general, but I'm not sure how to go about adopting these caches other than reaching out to the COs and just waiting for a response Like I've done with one of them thus far. Then, what if I don't get a response, and the caches continue to go without maintenance.
Furthermore, I'm sure I'm just making a bigger deal out of it than need be, but I'm worried about the logistics of transferring said cacheownerships. Who needs to get involved, and who makes the final decision? How easy is it to update cache info, or redo any of the hints/info/coords/etc that need a freshening up... Obviously, I've never been a cache owner, and I've been wanting the opportunity to present itself like this one has, and even though I'm super excited, I'm a little nervous because I just don't want to suck at it, LOL.
