I've tried searching for a thread that might have discussed this to some degree, but I wasn't able to find anything. Google searching didn't really give me anything other than varying opinions and experiences, and I can't seem to find anything specifically addressing the subject of Geocaching on the NC State Park website... Does anyone know, definitively, the rules and regulations regarding cache placement? I'm assuming it's not against the park rules since I've noticed a couple of physical container locations on the map at morrow Mountain, which is closest to me, but the Google research had a few stories of people getting verbal permission from a park ranger, to then having the cache removed by another ranger. Being told it was illegal, then told it was perfectly fine, then told it was okay but only with a proper permit... I'm confused, and maybe there is grave bit of miscommunication or just a lack of proper info... I've reached out to the NC State Park department via messaging through their website to ask if there is any info I might grab a hold of, but I don't know if I might get a quicker response from someone here who has gone through this before?
In fairness, I have NOT placed anything in any State Park as of right now, and I absolutely will not until I have a proper answer on this matter. The last thing I want is for an ammo can to be taken away from me with a load of swag, and empty log book still inside it. I know there may be varying opinions about "our parks" vs. "rules and regulations", but ultimately I would like to respect the land and wishes of the people that are paid to maintain it before anything else.
I have previously obtained info and documentation for a more localized municipality in the Charlotte area, so I know this is a bit outside of those playing fields.
