Our last relay, the "Laundry List Relay", set a record for the most members active in a GCGC contest: 36! Most of those were new members of less than a year. GCGC Old Timers will remember the beginning of the relays, which have since morphed into the caching contests we now run. The relays were introduced in 2008 by Mallock, and in 2009, they hit their heyday with the "En Garde", "Take a Hike", and "Go Nuts" relays. The relays promoted a sense of community and good natured competition between GCGC members. Here's hoping this round of moving caches does the same!
This Relay includes FOUR OCUS MOVING CACHES (3 BRAND NEW, and one CLASSIC!): The Walrus, Mr. Incognito, El Lobo, and TermiteHunter XD!
Here's the Basic Rules:
* There are four moving caches for this contest, all listed with OCUS.com.
* Find one! Take it!
* Mark somehow (chalk X or obvious "X" with branches works well) that the cache was found so if someone comes right after you, they will know they were beaten to the find and do not waste time looking for something that isn't there. You may want to bring chalk with you.
* Log it on OCUS.com.
* Tell us here that you found one of them. Make sure you tell us the new location!
* You will get a prestigious GCGC Point
* At the end of the contest, ONE of the four caches will be chosen at random. All finders of that chosen cache will get ONE NAME IN THE DRAWING FOR A FREE GEOCOIN, for EVERY find that cacher made on the chosen cache.
* If you find all four caches during the contest, you will get A BONUS chance in the coin drawing (in addition to all the times you found the chosen cache).
* A sample log is below:
The Walrus and I have had a fun ride. We landed just outside of Matthews in a soft bed of clouds.
This should have been an easy P&G for someone.
THE WALRUS IS HERE: N 35 08.799 W 080 43.819

Here's More Detailed Rules:
* If you have not already, register at www.opencaching.us (OCUS). It is FREE!
* Find one of the four contest moving caches, just like the old GCGC relays. The four caches are listed below:
The Walrus (http://coord.ch/OU00D1)
Mr. Incognito - (GCGC) (http://coord.ch/OU0598)
El Lobo - (GCGC) (http://coord.ch/OU059A)
TermiteHunter XD - (GCGC) (http://coord.ch/OU059B)
* Remember to mark your find with chalk or some other non-destructive, non-polluting method as a courtesy to seekers that may not know you have already made the find.
* You MUST move the cache if you find it.
* Log your find on OCUS.
* ON THIS THREAD, Post a note below that you found it. It can be a copy or link to your OCUS "Found It" log, but we all would love more detail on the hide you found here if you feel so inclined.
* PLEASE RE-HIDE within a reasonable amount of time (less than a week, please), following the cache's requirements.
* Post another note here with the coordinates where you hid it in the new location. It would be most helpful to list a "google map" link to the coordinates like
maps.google.com/maps?q=N+35+10.519+W+080+39.428
That way, everyone can quickly and easily find out where the caches are now.
* You CAN find the same cache multiple times (after someone else moves it, of course). You can't log it as a find on OCUS, but you can post a note that you moved it and type in the new coords that way.
* Please follow the placement instructions on the individual cache pages! Some caches must stay in the "GCGC Area", while others must stay in Mecklenburg County. Also, some require placement in the woods, other in more urban settings.
* Remember, only your finds on ONE of the four caches translates into coin chances! Your best odds are to make finds on all the contest caches.
* If you find all four contest caches AT LEAST ONCE EACH, your name will be in the coin drawing one additional time.
* Groups are encouraged! Just like any cache, if a group of cachers find one of the caches, all members will get "Points" if they log their experience on the OCUS cache page and here.
* This relay will last through December 31, 2012. After the contest is over, cards will be drawn to determine who wins the FREE GEOCOIN!
Have fun, and let me know if you have any questions or comments. I will keep a "Scoreboard" of who has found what cache. Go out, and go caching! Have fun!
***Please keep this thread "clean" for contest entries! General chatter, trash talk, group caching runs on these four caches, etc. can be made HERE in the "Back To Basics COMMENTS" thread.***
