We have mentioned it before but I don't think we have ever explained it...
Most cachers start with the FROG at Geocaching.com.
If you are like me, I wanted to see what else there was out there along the same vein and even way back then I found a few.
There are a few Alternatives to GC. None are as popular but they are there.
They offer much the same thing as GC but often have caches that are not offered on GC giving you more options for playing the same game.
OpenCachng.us or OCNA (OpenCaching North America) A free alternative with additional options including Moving, BIT and Virtuals (no longer permitted on GC)
OpenCaching. whatever country you are in. The OC operates as Nodes in each country or region. You will find OC in Europe to be a huge player.
Opencaching.com a Garmin operated site that is now closed. They stole the OC name and took caches from GC only to fail in the end.
NaviCache, com a now more or less defunct cache listing site. Some of theirs are still out there but new listings have not been accepted since 2014. They promise a return yet to be seen.
TerraCaching.com is still active and is available world wide with Cyber and Locationless caches among their arsenal
GPSGames.org has several GPS related games including their own caches
Munzee is a find, scan and go option where you find QR codes scattered everywhere.
Virtually Real Caching is our own version of caching where you find locations virtually and again in real life. Sort of a dual virtual thing
There are others.
Alternative caching is essentially any caching that does not include the biggest player in the field, Geocaching.com
Many get tied to GC simply because they are the largest where they started and their find count is likely going to be dominated by their GC membership.
Just because they are the largest, they are not the best or only game in town.
Explore the others. You may find it interesting.
We usually encourage the use of multiple sites but we understand the GC is the main source of our members
Some games we offer are GC specific. Others are not. When there is an option, consider one of these ALTERNATIVE sites.
Join them all and see what works for you but don't get stuck with one. Things change.
I was a proponent of BETA over VCR. My bad...
How many of you were Myspace members?
