So the youngest (living with the GF on their own) just complained that his car does not start ...at least not on the first attempt and it has become an issue.
A 2006 Hyundai Tiburon Se V6
It clicks (a single click not the rapid click of a low battery) on the first turn of the key but most often starts the second time apparently it does not start the second time any more.
As a dad from the end of the boomer generation I deduce that it is most likely the starter. I instruct him to have the battery checked to be sure that is not an issue and the "dude" says, the battery is good, the alternater is good and the starter checks out but It is probably the starter. (wonder how old this guy was)
Oh, the Sun roof no longer works and the sunroof shade will not move (manual) as well as the passanger side window stopped working along with the radio.
Preperations start to come to aid.
I find info on what to check and do online for the window, radio, sunroof and starter just for refernce.
I buy the starter (this one is more than it should be by far) the rest is essentiallly cleaning contacts (some more complicated than others)
Any way, I change the overpriced starter that was difficult to find and remove and replace a few fuses then we disassemble the sunroof control panel and clean the contact points, force the sticking inside panel and VIOLA everthing seems to work.
Fixed the starter (by replacing it)
Fixed the sliding interior sunroof panel by forcing and removing obstructions
Fixed the Sunroof by cleaning the control contacts
Fixed the passenger window by cleaning contacts
Fixed the radio by accidentally cleaning contacts at a fuse
It's good to be a DAD.
We just did well over a thousand dollars worth of work in 2.5 hours at a cost of $250 for the starter.
I do have to say that $250 is far too much for a starter but if that is the price we came out very well without labor and the usual testing/replacement for the rest.
Interestingly I did find a Tiburon forum that appears to still be active even today. They make that car look like something you might want. They are pretty hot.
Not that any of you have a Tiburon
It almost has a little following like that of any collector car
