How to Play:
Find a cache that contains the number "1" (the word "ONE" will also suffice)
Post it in your contest thread.
Find a cache where the first letter in the title begins with the letter "A".
Post it in your contest thread.
Find a cache where the first letter in the title begins with the letter "B".
Post it in your contest thread.
Move to the next letter in the series.
Once you have completed the 26 letters of the alphabet, find a cache that contains the number "2" (the word "TWO" will also suffice)
Post it in your contest thread.
Then start over with the alphabet where the second letter in the title is the letter "A" for Round 2
Post it in your contest thread
Find a cache where the second letter in the title is a "B".
Post it in your contest thread.
Move to the next letter in the series
Once you have completed the 26 characters of the alphabet, find a cache that contains the number "3" (the word "THREE" will suffice)
Move to the next letter in the series in the next position for Round 3
Repeat the procedure until you are unable to locate any further caches that fit your need.
Letter position and numbers:
For determining numbers Arabic Numerals (1,2,3,4) and whole number words work. (one, two)
Other words containing the number within are not accepted ("bones" will not work for "one")
Roman numerals are allowed ("V" is a 5 ) but only when written & intended as a numeral, not as part of another word or when intended as a letter.
("Saturn V Rocket to the Moon" works as number five, "IV Transfusion" does not work for numbers one, four or five as it is intended as an abbreviation and not a number)
Position indicators, (second, fifth etc.) are not numbers.
"Twenty five" would work for number(s) 5, 20 and 25.
"25" works for 2, 5 and 25 (but not 20)
The numerical letter position will be the actual position of the letter based on previous letters regardless of other intervening characters or spaces.
For determining the letter position do not count non-letter characters (#$ & etc.) or spaces, only letters.
Example cache title:
Great cache #5 of my two cache series (apparently this person has no idea how numbers work)
G is the first letter
C is the sixth, eighth, eighteenth and twentieth letter
O is the eleventh and seventeenth letter
5 is a number
two is a number
T is the fifth and fifteenth letter
To post Your Entry:
This is a little different from the norm...
You will notice I said to "post it in your contest thread"
Above the general contest board you will see a sub-board titled ALPHA Entry (from here you will have to go back to the beginning where the board shows ALL contests)
To enter your individual cache finds go to this sub-board
Create a New Thread titled with your user name. (It is at the top right when you get there just like when you create a new topic on the main boards)
Enter your individual entries in order there under your own individual thread once you create it.
Post only your entry finds in proper order as they are found.
You may include your progress, boasts, questions or otherwise comment here in the main contest thread.
Contest entries must be in your individual ALPHA Entry sub board thread (not here) using the full editor post by clicking REPLY rather than using the Quick Reply
Post as the Cache Title (as or with a link) under your individual contest entry thread with the target Alpha in Bold. (you may also color it to help it stand out)
Example: Another one (Where "A" was the first round target Alpha),
Another one (where one or 1 was the target)
Another one (where "N" was the second round target Alpha)
Other Rules:
Post your progress in the main contest thread (here) so everyone can see how you are doing (Round 1 Alpha E found... etc)
No previously found caches. (except when found on a new cache listing site that you have not logged it on before. You must re-visit)
Must post a Found log on the cache page corresponding to the entry in your entry thread.
Any cache type or cache listing site may be used (GC, OCNA, TC, GPSGames (Caches & Shutterspots only, no other geolocated activity included) and VRC (virtual and real, each are individual finds) are recognized for this game.)
Caches that require a signature on a log may be done in any number. Caches that can be completed from home (VRC Virtuals, Shutterspots, Cyber, OCNA Challenges or similar that do not require you to leave home and sign a log) are limited to no more than two in a row. (Shutterspot expects you to go to the location but todays tech allows you to possibly do them from home therefore they are limited to 2 finds in succession)
Only the Main TITLE (or name) of the cache counts as the title. Secondary titles, additional names or text are not included.
What it will look like:
You will create your own contest entry thread in the ALPHA ENTRY board.
There you will post your first find with the number one and then each alpha find (a,b,c...) as the first letter of the cache name.
Make each find in proper order and post each find in order within a day (or so as reasonably possible)
As you post these you will let everyone know here where you are so far in the contest rules thread. ie. "Round 1, alpha A found" so they don't have to check each participants thread.
Found three today? "Completed Round 1 number one, alpha A & B"
After you find "Z" in the first round, start over this time starting with the number 2 anywhere in the title.
After finding and posting the number 2 (or two) begin again with "A" this time in the second letter position.
Continue this same procedure until you are unable to find any additional caches that fit your needs. (remember there are other options for caches than just GC where you may find additional candidates for entry)
Each participant will have their own contest entry thread that they created in the ALPHA ENTRY board where their found entries are posted.
Each participant will tell us where they are in their individual progress here in this thread for easy reference.
Go as far as you are able. Explore other options than your usual when it seems impossible to proceed.
Who can go the furthest in a Numbered ALPHA?
How fast can I go?:
As fast as you want.
I do request that you find and post in order. (Don't find a bunch out of order then post to suit your needs. Be honorable and do it as expected, find one at a time in order)
You can find one or more each day and post your progress as you go.
Find one, find 20. Just do them in order and let us know how you are doing.
Please log and post the same day (or the next) No holding back, entering before logging and sandbagging (not that it matters here)
If you are unable to find a cache that fits your needs, you have reached the end of your Alpha progression.
Don't get stuck with your options on GC. Look elsewhere to find that elusive letter in the correct position before giving up.
